Obituary of Edgar William Horst

In Memory of Edgar W. Horst August 08, 1918 - July 18, 2010 Edgar W. Horst, 91, of Ocala, died Sunday, July 18, 2010, at Superior Residence Assisted Living Facility. He moved to Ocala in 1980 from Miramar, FL and previous to that from Sayville, New York. Edgar was one of three children born to Jessie and Edgar Horst. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio but grew up on a small farm in Falmouth, PA. In 1942 he enlisted in the US Army Air Corp and did his tour of duty on the Italian front during World War II in the 815th Bomber Squadron. As a Staff Sergeant Edgar flew missions on B-17 aircraft photographing bombing sights. He is the recipient of the Bronze Star, Eamet (Europe-Africa-Middle East) Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and a Medal for Marksmanship. Edgar spent most of his working life with the United States Post Office from where he retired. He was preceded in death by his wife Winifred who died in 1992 and is survived by his son Davison Horst, his daughter Bonnie Maguire, his daughter-in-law Luxamee Horst and son-in-law Arthur MaGuire, his grandchildren Gavin Horst, Lance MaGuire, and Danielle MaGuire, and two great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Thursday, July 30, 2010, at the Veteran's National Cemetery in Bushnell, Fl.
