Obituary of Philip Neal Childers

CHILDERS, Philip Philip Neal Childers "Uncle Phil", 72, passed away December 19, 2010 in Ocala, FL after a short illness. He was born in Campton, KY, August 3,1938. Phil has lived in Florida for 24 years. He is survived by his wife of 43 years and best friend Charlotte Marie Childers of Ocala; his son John T. Childers of Ocala; son Neal Childers and wife Joan of Dayton, Ohio; daughter Pamela Sue Holland and husband Tim of Clarksville, TN; brother Larry Childers and wife Joyce of Goldsboro, NC; 5 grandchildren and one great grandchild and one on the way, and many nieces and nephews. He had many close friends far and near. Mr. Childers was preceded in death by his father Theodore "Ted" Childers and mother Thelma Adams Childers, both of Dayton, Ohio. Phil attended grade and high school in Dayton, Ohio. He graduated from the University of Miami of Ohio and Chase Law School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a banker in Dayton and in Illinois. He moved to Clarksville, TN where he worked for Jenkins and Wynn and was in the restaurant business with his wife. Phil retired and moved to Florida in 1986. He joined the working staff at Mark III Industries in Ocala for many years. Years later he started his own business and enjoyed many years of "The Good Life" and was still active until his death. Philip's associates said they had heard the word Gentleman but never knew the real meaning until they met Philip Childers. Philip was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ocala. He belonged to the Ocala Elks Lodge #286 where he and his wife donated their time and money to have a Karaoke Night. Phil loved to sing and enjoyed performing with his friends. Phil's most favorite thing was his Corvette and his friends in the Ocala Corvette Club of Marion County. Second favorite was to be a die hard Gator. He belonged to the Gator Club of Marion County. Phil was the president of the Village Homeowners Association of Ocala. Services for Philip Childers will be held at 2 PM Saturday, January 8, 2011, at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910 E. Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala. All friends are invited. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting checks in Phil's name be sent to his home. All money will go to the charities that he and his family and club members have supported for years in Marion County.
