Obituary of Betty D. Mathis

Betty D. Mathis of St. Augustine, Florida passed away on January 19, 2024. She was born on December 15, 1926, in Ocala, Florida to the late Ben and Nellie (Owenby) Daniel, Sr.

A graduate of Ocala High School, where she was honored in 1945 as the Homecoming Queen. She was proud of her long life as a caring mother, being self-sufficient and a hard worker. This was rooted in her convictions as a Christian as she grew in her faith by reading the Bible, praying her daily Devotional and listening to the Reverend Charles Stanley.

Betty enjoyed listening to Christian music, Big Band, Easy Listening and Johnny Mathis to name of few of her musical favorites. She had many friends throughout her whole life, especially remembering Lois Joyner, Patsy Hicken, Joe Michael, Alberta Iikes and Betty McFarland. Her favorite past times were family reunions and Thanksgiving at her brother Ben.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ben and Nellie (Owenby) Daniel Sr., son John Michael Mathis; brother Ben Daniel, Jr., and sister Barbara Stonalord.

Betty is survived by her daughters Joni Ann Mathis, St. Augustine, Judy Dewitt, South Carolina and Jean Vitti, South Carolina. 5 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren.
