Obituary of Florence S. Mathisen

Florence S. Mathisen, 94, of Ocala, Florida passed away at her home surrounded by family on May 18, 2022. She was born April 16, 1928, the daughter of the late Kristian H. and Sylvia (Flor) Samuelsen. Florence was a native of Brooklyn, New York before moving to Long Island then finally settled in Princeton, New Jersey with her loving husband, Robert H. Mathisen. The two later moved to Boca Raton in 1989 where Florence resided until moving to Ocala in 2016. Florence was a dedicated registered nurse who was a member of the Nurse Cadet Core during WWII while she was in college. She continued to spend her life volunteering her time for Hospice groups and pregnancy centers in Boca Raton, even once going on a medical mission trip with her daughter at the age of 77. In her free time, Florence enjoyed singing and oil painting. She was a member of The Vine Community Church of Ocala.

Florence is survived by her children, Richard L. (Lorri) Mathisen of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Wayne R. (Patricia) Mathisen of Hillsborough, New Jersey, L. Kristine (Danny) Colucci of Ocala, Florida, and Timothy A. (Lisa) Mathisen of Hendersonville, North Carolina; her sisters, Solveig Norby and Marie Rodland; her twelve grandchildren; her 21 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and loving husband of 42 years, Robert H. Mathisen who passed away in 1992.

A funeral service for Florence will be held at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services (910 E Silver Springs Blvd., Ocala, FL 34470) on Sunday, May 29 at 4:00pm.
