David Martin

Obituary of David Thomas Martin

David Thomas Martin avid artist, poet and family man Died on October 5th 2020.

David was born in Aberdeen Scotland on October 3rd 1953. To Jim and Eva Martin, He was one for five siblings who were all boys. It was in Aberdeen where he met his wife Lorraine while she was in nursing collage. They fell in love and Married in 1977.

David and Lorraine had two sons Neil and Craig. David stayed at home as a house husband which was rare back in the late 80s, while Lorraine continued her career in nursing.

While at home David and Lorraine were involved with the cat protection league, and had may cats and kittens around, as well as dogs, mice, rabbits, and Guinea pigs.
His hobbies when he had time, he would be writing poetry or in the garage working on paintings. He loved to work in the garden and spent many days around his yard which he transformed into a wonderful garden, which all the family enjoyed.

As a family we spend many vacations traveling around UK and Tenerife. In 1989 the family moved to Arkansas for a year while Lorraine was working there, that is when David fell in love with the USA. Although David loved Scotland and always thought of it as home the family in 2003 moved to Florida. David and his family were ready for new adventures of coming to the USA, seeing and experiencing a new way of life and travel.

David always said he had no regrets in life and loved every minute of it. He got to see both of his hard-working sons graduate from college and was very proud with everything Neil and Craig had accomplished in life. He got to meet Neil’s wife Karen, and Craig’s wife Ashley. He knew that his sons were going to be just fine now that they had two wonderful women to keep them in line. He was delighted that he got the chance to meet and know them both.

He got to spend a lot of time with all of his grand kids, Nico, Aidan, Abigail, Jude, and Stiles. He was so proud of them all.

One thing David loved to do was be with his wife, and in the afternoons, they would figure out what to watch on TV together, or where to go to eat whether it was at their favorite restaurant or just simply stay and home and cook. They also would spend time together in their yard and watch the sunset.

On October 5th 2020 my brother and I lost our Father, my kids their papa, and my mother her Husband. He fought a hard battle with cancer, and he fought hard, never complained and lived every day to the fullest, we got to have him for another year and a half. As hard as this is and will take time to heal our broken hearts we will celebrate his life. He was our dad and we love him so very much! He was the best and a wonderful papa to the grandkids! I hope he knows how much we all loved him!

David was survived by his Wife Lorraine, Sons Neil, and Craig with their wife’s Karen and Ashley. His mother Eva, Brothers Colin, Philip, and Keith. In-laws Jim and Shella, Sister in-law Angela and husband John. Nephews Martin and Morag. And lastly his five much loved grandchildren.
